About
Osteoporosis is defined as a skeletal disorder that develops when bone mineral density or bone mass decreases. This reduction in bone mass can lead to reduced strength and structure of the bone. Diminished bone strength causes the bones to be more susceptible to fractures, most often in the hips, spine, and wrist. In most cases, no symptoms are associated with osteoporosis until a bone fracture takes place. Typical modern diets, which are high in grains and animal products may be a contributor to the rising rates of osteoporosis in America. Specific vegetables, fruits, and herbs have been shown to reduce bone resorption and the more consumed, the more bone resorption was reduced. This meal plan contains the key nutrients needed to help slow the rate of bone loss to help prevent and slow the progress of osteopenia and osteoporosis. Please review the educational handouts for more information on osteoporosis and how nutrition and exercise can help slow the progression of this common condition.
